  • What is OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation?

    OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is a unique, and easy-to-use navigation service. This new system provides automated voice-guided driving directions to subscribers while "on the go" in their vehicle. OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation allows you to stay focused on the road and it also provides peace of mind, knowing that you will be guided at each turn toward your final destination.

  • How does OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation work?

    The system works with Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite location and mapping technology, along with your vehicle equipment to route you to your destination.

  • Who can use Turn-by-Turn Navigation?

    OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is available for all new OnStar subscribers in equipped vehicles. All Safe & Sound subscribers receive one trial route to experience Turn-by-Turn Navigation; they can choose to upgrade to the Directions & Connections Plan to continue using the service. Turn-by-Turn Navigation is included for any subscribers with the Directions & Connections Plan.

  • How do I use Turn-by-Turn Navigation?

    Simply push the blue OnStar button and tell the specially trained Advisor where you want to go. Your Advisor locates the requested destination and sends detailed driving directions to the vehicle. These automated voice-guided driving directions lead you through each maneuver of the route as you travel toward your destination, providing "turn tones," street names and distances to each turn along the way. The system even alerts you if you miss a turn and offers a revised route to the destination.

    There are commands you can use while following your route, which you can initiate by pushing the phone or white-dot button. These commands can be found in the Quick Reference Card accompanying the OnStar manual in your vehicle glove box or you can download and print the Turn-by-Turn Quick Reference Card now.

    Some popular commands are:
    "Cancel route" — Command to the system to cancel receiving routes to a destination.
    "Route preview" — Command to the system to preview the route to destination.
    "Repeat" — Command to the system to repeat the last maneuver.

  • How much does Turn-by-Turn Navigation cost?

    All new Safe & Sound subscribers in equipped vehicles receive one trial route to experience Turn-by-Turn Navigation. An upgrade to the Directions & Connections Plan is needed to continue using the service. The cost to upgrade during the initial year of service is $14.95 per month or $149 for the year (plus tax).

    After the first year of vehicle ownership, subscribers are required to pay their Directions & Connections Plan for $438 per year (plus tax) to continue using Turn-by-Turn Navigation and all other OnStar services.

  • How do I know if my vehicle is equipped with Turn-by-Turn Navigation?

    OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation requires an active subscription and the integration of key systems to operate, including:

    • Factory-installed Generation 7.0 or newer OnStar hardware
    • Contracted data network coverage (View coverage area map)
    • Antilock Braking System (ABS)
    • Active Directions & Connections subscription

    All new Safe & Sound subscribers in equipped vehicles receive one trial route to experience Turn-by-Turn Navigation. And the service is included for Directions & Connections subscribers in equipped vehicles.

    Safe & Sound subscribers may upgrade to the Directions & Connections Plan to continue using Turn-by-Turn Navigation and all other OnStar services.

  • Is OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation available everywhere?

    Because OnStar's Turn-by-Turn Navigation service relies on Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless data coverage and agreements with carriers to provide this service, Turn-by-Turn routing is only available to customers residing in and initiating or updating a route while traveling through OnStar's contracted carriers' enhanced service capable areas. This covers approximately 98 percent of the U.S. population, and approximately 80 percent of the population in Canada.

  • What if I'm in an area where OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is not available?

    Push your blue button to have an Advisor provide you with live driving directions should you be traveling in an area where Turn-by-Turn Navigation is limited or not available.

  • Why is Turn-by-Turn Navigation service unavailable in French?

    OnStar is working very hard to develop Turn-by-Turn Navigation for our French speaking subscribers. We value our French speaking subscribers and are working to refine Turn-by-Turn Navigation so as to deliver a positive French voice experience. We expect to launch Turn-by-Turn Navigation in French before the end 2007. In the meantime, OnStar subscribers with a French language preference and an active Directions & Connections subscription will continue to have access to driving directions via a live OnStar Advisor.
