| Q1. | What is OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation? |
| A1. | OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is the simplest and smartest navigation system. This new system provides automated voice-guided driving directions while "on the go" in their vehicle. OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation allows you to stay focused on the road and it also provides peace of mind, knowing that you will be guided at each turn toward your final destination. |
| Q2. | How does the service work? |
| A2. | Simply press the blue OnStar button and tell the advisor where you want to go. A highly trained advisor locates the requested destination and sends detailed driving directions to the vehicle. Automated voice-guided driving directions guide you through each maneuver of the route as you travel toward your destination, providing "turn tones", street names, and distances to each turn along the way. The system even alerts you if you miss a turn and offers a revised route to the destination. |
| Q3. | How is OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation different than OnStar's Driving Directions service? |
| A3. | While both services involve the advisor as the initial point of contact for locating the requested destination, OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation allows the detailed driving directions to be automatically delivered to you as you're driving, each turn along the way. OnStar Driving Directions are delivered verbally by the OnStar Advisor, and can be recorded in the vehicle and played back throughout the route. |
| Q4. | How do I know if my vehicle is capable of the Turn-by-Turn service? |
| A4. | OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation requires the integration of key systems to operate, including: factory-installed Generation 7.0 OnStar hardware, contracted data network coverage, Antilock Braking System (ABS), and an active Directions & Connections subscription. Click here for vehicle availability. |
| Q5. | Is there an additional cost to receive OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation? |
| A5. | OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is an enhancement to OnStar's current Directions & Connections plan. Select vehicles receive the Directions & Connections plan during their initial year of service. In cases where the vehicle receives the Safe & Sound plan during their initial year of service, a $149 annual upgrade to Directions & Connections is required to receive OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation. After the first year of vehicle ownership, the subscriber will be required to renew their Directions & Connections plan for $438 per year. Click here for more details. |
| Q6. | Is OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation available everywhere? |
| A6. | Because OnStar's Turn-by-Turn Navigation service relies on CDMA wireless data coverage and agreements with carriers to provide this service, Turn-by-Turn is only available to customers residing in and initiating or updating a route while traveling through OnStar's contracted carriers' enhanced service capable areas. This covers approximately 98 percent of the U.S. population, and approximately 80 percent of the population in Canada. |
| Q7. | What if I'm in an area where OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is not available? |
| A7. | Live OnStar advisors are available by pressing the blue button to provide assistance with Driving Directions, should the Directions & Connections subscriber be in or traveling through an area where OnStar contracted data coverage is limited or not available. |
| Q8. | Is there anything else I need to do? |
| A8. | Once your driving directions are sent to the vehicle, they will automatically begin guiding you to your destination. You can use several voice commands to interact with the system to receive more information on your driving directions. For example, press the phone button and say 'Get my destination' - your destination will automatically be played back to you. Or, you can press the phone button and say 'Route preview' - initial directions will automatically be played for you. For a complete list of interactive voice commands, refer to the Quick Reference Card found in the OnStar Owner Guide in the vehicle's glove box or click here. |
| Q9. | What happens if I stop or take a break during my trip? |
| A9. | When resuming your trip, OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation will automatically resume and you will continue to hear maneuvers. If your maneuvers do not play, simply push the button and an advisor will assist you. If you wish to cancel the route, press the phone button and say 'Cancel Route'. For a complete list of interactive voice commands, refer to the Quick Reference Card found in the OnStar Owner Guide in the vehicle's glove box or click here. |
| Q10. | Are there any visual displays used in conjunction with the OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation voice commands? |
| A10. | Some vehicles utilize the interactive Driver Information Center (DIC), radio display, or Heads-Up Display (HUD) to provide information related to the route. The type of information displayed will vary by vehicle and display type. These visual displays are designed to enhance the voice-guided driving directions provided by OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation. |
| Q11. | Why is Turn-by-Turn Navigation service unavailable in French language? |
| A11. | OnStar is working very hard to develop Turn-by-Turn Navigation for our French speaking subscribers. We value our French speaking subscribers and are working to refine the Turn-by-Turn service so as to deliver a positive French voice experience. We expect to launch Turn-by-Turn Navigation in French before the end 2007. In the meantime, OnStar subscribers with a French language preference and an active Directions & Connections subscription will continue to have access to driving directions via a live OnStar Advisor. |
