- What is OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics?
OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is a simple and powerful tool to assess your vehicle’s key operating systems needs. OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics includes:
- A regular monthly e-mail report – every month your vehicle automatically sends you an e-mail with the results of hundreds of checks of your engine, transmission, antilock brakes, and more. It’s a customized report about the condition of your vehicle and recommended actions to ensure proper maintenance.
- On-Demand Diagnostics – if you have an immediate concern while driving, just push the blue OnStar button. An advisor can run an On-Demand Diagnostic check while you are driving.

- How do I enroll in OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics?
To begin receiving your monthly diagnostic emails, simply enroll in OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics via our simple online process. Or you can push your vehicle's blue OnStar button at any time and an OnStar Advisor will enroll you.
- Is there any charge for OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics service?
OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is included in all OnStar subscription plans at no additional cost as long as you remain an OnStar subscriber. Please note that OnStar does not offer a separate OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics service plan.
- How can I tell if my vehicle is eligible for OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics?
In most cases, your vehicle qualifies if it meets these conditions:
- You have a 2004 model year or later GM vehicle
- Your vehicle is equipped with the GM Oil Life System

- How often will I receive an OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics email?
Once you sign up, you'll receive an email report approximately every 30 days. However, your vehicle must be running in order to transmit data, so the exact timing will vary depending on your driving habits.
- How soon will I get my Vehicle Diagnostics email report after OnStar receives information from my vehicle?
As soon as OnStar receives the data, your email will be generated automatically and sent to the email address you provided. Please keep in mind that OnStar cannot control how your email is handled by your own email provider.
- How do I make sure that I receive my monthly OnStar Vehicle Diagnostic email?
In order to ensure that you always receive your OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics report, we recommend that you add vehiclediagnostics@onstar.com as a contact in your address book. Click here to find instructions for your specific email service provider.
- If I have more than one vehicle, can they all be covered by one email?
At this time, each vehicle must be enrolled separately. You'll receive a separate email report for each one. We recommend that you add the OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics email address to your address book or as a contact, so your monthly email report won't be rejected or placed in the junk mail folder.
OnStar can send a Vehicle Diagnostics Report to multiple email addresses. If you share your GM vehicle with other drivers, this is a great way to ensure everyone is up-to-date on your vehicle’s maintenance. You can add additional email addresses to your account by contacting your Onstar Advisor.
- Why do I need OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics if my vehicle has warning lights on the dashboard?
Each month your vehicle automatically runs hundreds of diagnostic checks of its key systems and can detect some problems that may not trigger a warning message on your dash. An OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics report provides you with a complete monthly review of your vehicle’s key systems. OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics can also help you optimize fuel economy and save money on oil changes. OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics lets you know exactly when to change your oil, which may not be every 3,000 miles.
No Extra Charge: OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is included in your base OnStar subscription. Press your blue button to sign up.
- Can I receive emails more often than every 30 days?
The system automatically schedules a transmission of data about every 30 days. But you can still get an OnStar diagnostics check anytime you need it. If your "Check Engine" light comes on, or you have any concerns about your vehicle, simply push the blue OnStar button. An Advisor can run an On-Demand Diagnostics check and tell you if there is a maintenance issue that requires your attention.
- Will I receive OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics emails on the same day of the month?
No. The system automatically receives data from your vehicle and sends you an email report about every 30 days, but not necessarily on the same day each month. Your OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics report can only be sent via email, it cannot be sent by postal mail. Please also note that we can only resend your most recent diagnostics report, not any prior reports.
- What if I change my email address?
Contact OnStar at 1.888.4.ONSTAR and press “2” to update personal information. Please provide the Advisor with your PIN and ask to update your email address. You can also press the blue OnStar button in your vehicle and ask an advisor to update your email address. Either way, it only takes a few minutes.
- Why can't I log into "My Account" and access my OnStar account information online?
There are two possibilities:
- The account number or zip code that you entered is not recognized by the system. Please check your entry and try again. If you have recently moved, we may not have your new address, so please try your previous zip code.
or
- Online access to your OnStar account is not available yet. We are currently in the process of updating our Subscriber account records. You should be able to access your account information within two business days. (New vehicle purchases or vehicle reactivations may take longer.)
