Oil Life Information
Your remaining oil life is important to your vehicle's overall health, which is why you should check the oil level regularly and also reset your Oil Life Indicator after each oil change. The GM Oil Life System tells you when it's time to change your oil, based not only on your driving patterns and mileage, but also things like the climate of your area. This means that changing your oil every 3,000 miles may no longer be necessary. Your GM dealer will help keep your vehicle on an appropriate service schedule. Visit GM Goodwrench for consolidated maintenance schedules for your vehicle.
See the status alerts below to better understand what oil life percentage range each symbol represents.
According to FuelEconomy.gov, using the proper oil grade in your vehicle can improve your fuel economy by up to 2%. All GM vehicles use an oil grade of SAE 5w-30 (with exception of the Saturn VUE V6 which uses SAE 5w-20). Be sure to ask for this oil grade at your next scheduled oil change. Available on 2004 MY & newer GM models equipped with the GM Oil Life System. Diagnostics not available on Pontiac Vibe, Saab 9-3 and 9-5. Diagnostic services vary on Cadillac SRX V8, Saturn VUE, Ion and L-Series, Chevy Silverado diesel and GMC Sierra diesel. For details, call 1.888.4.ONSTAR (1.888.466.7827) or press your blue button.
