It was a rainy, foggy day in Surrey, BC. Elementary school teacher Allyson Mosher, new to the area, was commuting to work in her GMC Terrain. Driving along Highway 10, Allyson reached some congestion where traffic had come to a full stop. That is when she noticed the driver behind her.

“I still remember seeing his headlights in my rear-view mirror, and I was pumping my brakes and he did not even notice. I knew he was going to hit me, so I was bracing for impact.”

Going about 80 km/h, the distracted driver rear-ended Allyson. Allyson had hit her head against the headrest hard enough to sustain a concussion and a neck injury.

Too much in shock to even remember her own license plate number, Allyson connected with an OnStar Emergency-Certified Advisor*41. The Advisor was able to calmly talk Allyson through the situation, collect information, and dispatch First Responders.

“OnStar was helpful because I was dazed and unsure what to do next. I was new to BC and didn’t know the process, and I wasn’t sure where I was. The OnStar Advisor was able to locate the exact intersection.”

Having come from Toronto, Allyson was still getting used to rural BC and the numbered streets of Surrey. Had Allyson had to call 911 herself, she would not have been able to effectively communicate her location. Thanks to OnStar, Firefighters arrived on the scene within 10 minutes.

“They knew all the answers that I didn’t necessarily know at that time.”

Having had an OnStar-equipped vehicle in Toronto, Allyson was no stranger to some of the features. Allyson relies on Turn-by-Turn Navigation*16 daily, and appreciates the ease of use. While she was aware of the available emergency services, she was hoping she would never have to use it. Allyson is thankful that OnStar’s Emergency-Certified Advisors were there when she needed them most.

After the accident, Allyson was supplied with a short-term rental and was relieved to find that OnStar was already activated. Going forward, OnStar is the standout feature that Allyson will look for when choosing a vehicle, as it provides her the peace of mind and comfort she needs.

“OnStar is what makes me feel safe in my vehicle.”
