What is Vehicle Diagnostics?
Vehicle Diagnostics*17 is designed to deliver certain vehicle health updates while you’re out on the road. Including an easy-to-read monthly Diagnostics report, Dealer Maintenance Notification, and, depending on your vehicle’s capabilities, real-time Diagnostic Alerts and Proactive Alerts — you can even get On-Demand Diagnostics simply by pressing the blue OnStar button*1. Vehicle Diagnostics helps provide you with peace of mind for the road ahead.
What are Diagnostic Alerts?
Running a check on your engine, transmission, antilock brakes and other key systems can help you stay on top of maintenance and assure that your vehicle remains in good working order. With Diagnostic Alerts, you can set your preferences to be notified of your vehicle’s condition in real time via email and text (message and data rates may apply), with a Connected Access. Your vehicle is self-diagnosing (based on vehicle capabilities), so you can enjoy the experience of driving.
What is a Proactive Alert?
A Proactive Alert is an alert sent to the member when data from vehicle systems predict potential issues with key vehicle components, including the battery, fuel pump, fuel pressure sensor and starter motor. This service is available on a limited number of models.
What is the difference between a Diagnostic Alert and a Proactive Alert?
Diagnostic Alerts are alerts based on current or existing conditions with certain systems in your vehicle. Proactive Alerts use data from certain vehicle systems to predict potential issues.
How do I enroll in Diagnostic or Proactive Alerts?
If you enrolled to receive the monthly Diagnostics Report email, you have the option to set your notification preferences for Diagnostic and Proactive (available on a limited number of models) Alerts as well. You can choose email or SMS (text) message to receive these alerts. Notification preferences can be selected on Owner Centre or through an Advisor. Message and data rates may apply. Diagnostic and Proactive Alerts are available to Connected Access Members, while On-Demand Diagnostics are available only to Members with paid service plans.
How do I perform an On-demand diagnostic check on my vehicle?
Just push the blue button. An Advisor can run an On-Demand diagnostics check and provide you with information about certain maintenance issues that require your attention. There’s no additional charge for this service for Remote Access and Premium Access plan Members.
Where will I receive a report?
You can choose to receive your report in a monthly email or, if you have a paid plan, in real time by contacting an Advisor. If you choose to have your report mailed to you, be sure to add firstname.lastname@example.org to your address book so your diagnostics report won’t be blocked by your spam filter.
How do I update my email address on file?
If you need to change your email address, contact an Advisor at 1.888.466.7827. Please provide the Advisor with your PIN and ask to update your email address. You can simply push the blue button in your vehicle and ask an Advisor to update your email address. You can also update your account information, including your email, in the Owner Centre. Either way, it only takes a few minutes.
Can I send a report to multiple addresses?
At this time, Canadian customers cannot add additional drivers to the Diagnostic Report notifications service.
