Connecting to your vehicle's Wi-Fi Hotspot

The "SSID" is the name of the Wi-Fi hotspot for the vehicle and the "Passphrase" is the password associated with the hotspot. The "SSID" will be used to identify which Wi-Fi hotspot you connect to and the "Passphrase" will be entered to complete the connection.

To get your hotspot name (SSID) and password, press the Voice Command button and say "Wi-Fi settings."

You can change the name of your hotspot and password by pushing the Blue OnStar button and asking your Advisor.

Data Trial, Data Plans and Usage

Yes, a data plan is required to use the vehicle's Wi-Fi hotspot.

Customers receive a 3-month or 3 GB (whichever comes first) trial data plan with the purchase of an eligible 2015 vehicle. OnStar data plan subscribers will also have the opportunity to access special offers from content partners, such as Famigo and TumblebooksTV, for brought-in devices.

You can press your Blue OnStar button and the Advisor will provide your current data usage.

The built-in Wi-Fi hotspot provides a better in-vehicle experience than your smartphone for a number of reasons. Our stronger signal means you have a fast and reliable connection. It is powered by your vehicle, so you're not reliant on a mobile device battery. It is also a more powerful connection than a smartphone or mobile hotspot* due to the external antenna.

Connection Questions and Troubleshooting

The vehicle ignition needs to be in the "Run" or "Accessory" position for the Wi-Fi hotspot to be active.

Seven devices can be connected simultaneously to the Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Wi-Fi hotspot has a range of 50 ft. from your vehicle.

The coverage for the in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot depends on the wireless carrier network coverage. When you are in areas where coverage fluctuates, performance may be impacted. In a 2G-coverage area, the Wi-Fi hotspot will not work. In a 3G-coverage area, streaming data or video to your devices may result in the degradation of your service. Once the app is downloaded and you are logged in, enter settings in Parent Mode and select “Activate Connected Car Apps.”

The TumbleBooks free offer expires after 30 days. After the free offer has expired, Subscribers with an active data plan can purchase a premium TumbleBooks subscription for $4.99/month, or to retain access to 5 predefined books at no charge.

Subscribers may purchase data at any time by pressing the blue OnStar button in their vehicle. Subscribers with an active data plan can access free content upon their next login.
