OnStar Services Consent

The OnStar Services Consent describes how GM collects, uses, and discloses Geolocation Information and Seatbelt Information to provide OnStar services to you. In order to receive OnStar services, you must review and agree to the OnStar Services Consent, which allows GM to collect, use, and disclose Geolocation Information and Seatbelt Information to provide OnStar services to you.

 

Depending on your vehicle, OnStar services may include features such as safety and security, infotainment, Wi-Fi® Hotspot, remote commands through the vehicle mobile app, and connected navigation. Certain features may require an additional consent.

Types of Data

GM will collect, use, and disclose Geolocation Information and Seatbelt Information, as described below.

 

Geolocation Information is information that reveals your precise geographic location, or the precise location of a vehicle or mobile device. Seatbelt Information is information that reveals whether the driver or passenger seatbelts are latched or unlatched.

 

GM collects Geolocation Information and Seatbelt Information while the vehicle is used and upon the occurrence of certain events.

 

With your consent, GM collects and uses Geolocation Information or Seatbelt Information to deliver OnStar services:

 

  • Geolocation Information: to provide security services (e.g., stolen vehicle assistance, crisis assist, or roadside assistance);
  • Geolocation Information: to provide connected navigation services (e.g., turn-by-turn routing information via OnStar, and trip routing or mapping);
  • Geolocation Information: to provide the ability to control various vehicle functions remotely via a mobile app, (e.g., geofencing or locating your vehicle);
  • Geolocation Information: to provide Super Cruise functionality for eligible vehicles;
  • Geolocation Information: to provide EV vehicle health support; and
  • Geolocation Information and Seatbelt Information: to provide safety services (e.g., automatic crash response)

Disclosures to Third Parties

GM may disclose Geolocation Information or Seatbelt Information to third parties and service providers that perform limited services at our direction to help us deliver OnStar services to you for purposes such as:

 

  • To emergency service and roadside assistance providers to deliver services and to protect life or physical safety (for example, to help you in an emergency)
  • To service providers who work on our behalf and who do not have an independent right to use the data, such as companies that help us develop our products and services or perform data analytics
  • To third parties for research and development purposes (such as university research institutes for improving highway safety)
  • As required or permitted by law, such as to comply with a civil, criminal, or regulatory inquiry, investigation, subpoena, or summons by federal, state, local, or other governmental authorities

Decline or Withdraw Consent

If you agree to this OnStar Services Consent, you can withdraw your consent and unenroll in OnStar at any time in the future by contacting an Advisor (dial 1-888-4OnStar or push the OnStar blue button in your vehicle). If you decline this OnStar Services Consent, you will not receive OnStar services.

 

Note that for battery electric vehicles, even if you decline to enroll in OnStar, GM may still collect, use, or disclose certain data as described in the applicable Owner’s Manual and the U.S. Consumer Privacy Statement.
