6 tips for Opening Day

Apr 02, 2019

Shh. Listen closely and you may hear the faint sounds of cracking baseball bats in the distance. It can only mean one thing: Opening Day is upon us.

If you’re looking forward to skipping work — not that we’d endorse that — OnStar can help make your ballpark outing run more smoothly. As you head out, remember these six tips designed to knock Opening Day out of the park.

1. Beat the game day traffic

Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to arrive before the first pitch — which will require avoiding traffic snags and game day road closures. When you use Turn-by-Turn Navigation,* an Advisor can download directions to the stadium right to your vehicle so you can get there confidently and in time to meet up with friends and grab a pre-game hot dog — or two.

2. Follow some simple anti-theft precautions

Let’s be honest — being somewhere as fun as Opening Day attracts a large crowd, and you might end up parking somewhere unfamiliar. If that’s the case, you can follow these quick tips to help protect yourself from vehicle theft. Enjoy the game with peace of mind knowing that even if you’ve taken every precaution and the worst still happens, OnStar Advisors can work with law enforcement to help get your vehicle back quicker and safer with Stolen Vehicle Assistance.*

3. Be prepared for the unexpected

Whether it’s a foul ball through the windshield or a flat tire on the way to the festivities, you can push your blue OnStar button for Roadside Assistance* and an Advisor can request help for you based on your location.

4. Keep an eye out

If you see any fellow fans in need of help — be a Good Samaritan. Push your red Emergency button* on their behalf, and an OnStar Advisor can request help for them — whether they’re an OnStar Member or not. (Remember, Good Samaritans don’t check if someone’s wearing the right team’s jersey first.)

5. Keep the fun going

Whether your team wins or loses, push your blue OnStar button and ask a friendly Advisor to recommend nearby restaurants and provide directions* to the one you choose, so you can celebrate the new season. With more than 14 million points of interest in the database, you’re sure to find your next stop.

6. Upgrade for even more game day fun!

Get more out of game day when you have the OnStar Essentials Plan*.  You can remotely lock, unlock, start* and locate your vehicle* (if properly equipped). And  you get data for your vehicle’s available built-in Wi-Fi® Hotspot* and can view nearby parking locations right from your vehicle’s navigation system (if properly equipped).

When you arrive, you’ll be the envy of the parking lot when you power your Opening Day tailgate party with your available built-in Wi-Fi® Hotspot. Connect up to seven devices from up to 50 feet away (vehicle must be on or in the accessory position for Wi-Fi to function).
