When Glenis E. found her SUV had been stolen, she started panicking. Two hours later, OnStar had helped get the car back.
Glenis E. thought her vehicle was safe. Her garage faces away from the street and isn’t visible to anyone who passes by. She thought her year-old Chevrolet Traverse was secure.
Yet, after getting home late one night, her daughter forgot to shut the garage door, and a set of keys was left in the cupholder. By 11:00 the next morning, her SUV was gone.
Glenis started panicking, then remembered she had the myChevrolet mobile app.
The next thing she did was call the police. After they took a report, she called OnStar.
“OnStar was very reassuring,” Glenis said. The OnStar Advisor told her the car could be prevented from starting again once it had stopped,
“Sure enough, it was like the longest two hours, and I got a call,” Glenis said. “It was the police telling me they found the car.”
Her SUV had come to a stop at a gas station, and the OnStar Advisor used Remote Ignition Block™ to prevent it from being restarted and called the police. When Glenis picked up her car, she realized a few small things were missing, but nothing that couldn’t be replaced.
OnStar Advisors handle more than 1,400 auto theft calls per month across North America (as of June 2022), helping police agencies locate, and in some cases slow down to an idle speed, stolen vehicles. Once police confirm your car has been stolen, OnStar Advisors use GPS to locate it and work with police to help them recover it.
