OnStar is powered by the human connection. Our Emergency Advisors are certified by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch and are trained to be a calming and confident voice that can quickly deliver medical assistance to our Members.

In order to be as efficient and effective as possible, Emergency Advisors go through rigorous coaching with OnStar’s medical director, Dr. Paul Stiegler. An expert with 35 years of experience working in emergency rooms, Dr. Stiegler helps train Advisors to ask the right questions in order to get the most accurate information to emergency dispatchers as quickly as possible. Emergencies happen lightning-fast and can be very strenuous. Under Dr. Stiegler’s supervision, Advisors are trained to respond to all types of emergency situations and to help keep Members calm.

Dr. Stiegler has seen it all. When he was first starting out in the medical field, he traveled to Africa to help care for people in communities where fresh water and electricity were scarce. While there, Dr. Stiegler worked mainly in triage scenarios, learning how to quickly adapt in an emergency and provide treatment without the latest medical innovations. When he came back to America, he was immediately drawn to the fast-paced atmosphere of emergency rooms and dedicated his life to emergency medicine.
