OnStar is there to help — even during the most unexpected situations

Most people know that OnStar can help if you’re in a crash.* But there’s a lot more that OnStar can do — as some Members have found out. Because OnStar Advisors are specially trained and Emergency Medical Dispatch–certified,* they can respond to even the most extraordinary and unpredictable situations. Here are five real stories where OnStar helped Members deal with the unexpected.

Dinah Spillers, OnStar Member

Escaping a wildfire

When OnStar Member Dinah Spillers found herself trapped and in need of a place to stay during the deadly 2016 Gatlinburg wildfires, OnStar helped her find a hotel in a nearby city. Any Member can push the blue or red button in their vehicle to be connected with an Advisor if they’re caught in a crisis.* These Advisors can help provide medical assistance, directions to a safer area or the location of a nearby shelter.

James Welty, OnStar Member

Helping others in need

Good Samaritans like James Welty use OnStar to help those in need, whether they’re helping an injured woman in a parking lot, or a dazed and disoriented person wandering down a highway. That’s because OnStar isn’t just for people on the road. It can be used to respond to emergencies, no matter who’s affected.

John Chavarria, OnStar Member

Finding a rescue dog a new home

OK, so this isn’t actually on the list of features you’ll get with OnStar. But it turned out to be a nice benefit for OnStar Member John Chavarria, who runs a dachshund rescue in Texas. When he needed to use OnStar for Roadside Assistance* after blowing a tire, he ended up finding a forever home for a friendly dog named Oscar.

Rosemary Nolley, OnStar Member

Remote rescue

OnStar Member Rosemary Nolley, a physically disabled 78-year-old grandmother, was home alone when she took a tumble and was unable to get up. But she didn’t panic. After calling her grandson for help, she contacted an OnStar Advisor who remotely unlocked her vehicle* parked outside, allowing her family to use the garage door opener to get inside the house and come to her rescue.
